The Guitar Song

Jamey Johnson’s new release is a double album – not precisely the most common of country music formats – and its cover looks more like a rock record’s. This is strange in one way, since he sounds like Waylon Jennings and writes like Merle Travis – he’s a classic new traditionalist, in a sort of shaggy Alan Jackson way. On the other hand, this sound is so out of vogue in Nashville currently that he may as well be working in another genre. Johnson’s music has surprised country’s marketing men by proving really rather popular – expect a slew of copy cat acts to follow.

We’ll play a track from The Guitar Song on Sunday.
